What is enlightenment? It’s temperature. That is how you can express enlightenment in terms of medicine and science. Health, happiness and peace are also temperature. Not a lot of people know about temperature, however.

Your body has a narrow range of temperature at which it stays healthy. It also fluctuates within that range depending on the external conditions, but also our internal environment. For example, when we lonely or depressed, our body temperature tends to be at the lower end of the normal spectrum. But, if you do a physical exercise, such as Toe Tapping, you raise your temperature. All kinds of physiological reactions happen then that affect your mind and emotions. You produce more of the hormones and neurotransmitters that make your body function. If you do this diligently, the loneliness disappears.

There’s a method for raising your body temperature and making your body and mind healthier and happier that’s much quicker than exercise, although, of course, exercising is still beneficial. This method is based on the human ability to concentrate.

Your destiny changes depending on what you focus on and what you choose. What happens when you angle a magnifying glass toward the sun? It becomes hot because it focuses on a single point and gathers the sun’s rays. Your mind is also a lens that focuses energy and causes change.

Try holding up your right pointer finger and focusing on your fingertip. Look at your fingertip. With enough focus, you will be able to see an aura, or a haze, at the tip of your finger. The tip of your finger will also become hot.

Now, spread both of your hands out, and straighten your spine. Again, focus on your fingertips. Can you feel heat there?

Ilchi-Lee_finger-sun-meditation_20141204

Now imagine the sun’s energy encapsulating your entire body. The sun’s energy enters your body by connecting at the fingertips. Your body vibrates and trembles as your body becomes hot, and your breathing becomes heavy. The fat stored in your body burns.

We all have the capability to focus; we just need to activate it. You can also strengthen it; it’s like shouting with your mind. Try shouting with your mind.

Changes then occur in your autonomic nervous system. Your concentration will flood your body with energy that can vibrate and transform your body’s entire energy into the state of happiness—from a lower temperature to the temperature of happiness.

After one minute, you can be completely recharged.

Finally, take three deep breaths.

What changes did you feel in your body, mind, and emotions from this brief meditation?

Remember, if you just think it, it will happen. That’s the power of your ability to concentrate. With your thoughts, you can raise your temperature, your concentration, and everything else.

By taking some time to focus on your body, you can get to know your entire body and its full capacity. You need to know your whole body in order to use all of its functionality. Then with only your focus you can improve your health and happiness.

Everything Is Kigong

By Ilchi Lee Comment

Ilchi Lee: Everything Is Kigong

Ki, qi, or chi are words for energy in Asia, the life energy that courses through designated channels in our bodies. Ki is meant to move freely through these channels, and it responds to our thoughts, emotions, and movement. With our focus, we are not only able to sense the ki in our bodies, but direct it as needed. We can smooth away blocks to our health, expel built-up emotions, and flush our minds of thoughts until our minds become like clear, still lakes. Adding movement, makes this more powerful—that is kigong (qigong).

On October 8-9, 2018, we held the 6th Annual Sport Kigong Competition for All in Seoul, South Korea with the slogan, "Be Friends! Healthy human beings, happy world, peaceful earth." Ten thousand people came to watch over 1,000 people from various countries compete. There were people from Korea, Japan, and China, as well as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and even the Middle East. They wore colorful costumes as their bodies moved fluidly and powerfully to music in different forms of kigong, communicating the energy of life to all.

However, we don't need to wear a costume or know a particular form in order to do kigong. Nothing is easier than kigong. There's no right or wrong way to do kigong.

At the core of kigong is spirit. If ki is the gas we put in our cars, spirit—the conscious awareness that is housed in our bodies—is the driver. As we move the energy in our bodies, the spirit that was trapped by our old thoughts and stuck emotions is set free. It expands until it meets the energy of the cosmos and we experience oneness with the universe.

When your spirit is free, it can move your body, and your life, in alignment with the universe. It can create health in the body and its hopes and dreams in the world. This is kigong.

Many people live without knowing and feeling their spirit. Instead, they become slaves to their history and their emotions, often without choosing or realizing it. If they don't feel their spirit, then they've lost their hopes and dreams. Kigong is for recovering your spirit, your hopes and dreams.

To do this, simply move your body by following the flow of ki in it. Rather than thinking about the movement or trying to do a certain movement, move freely and instinctively. Born in energy, we live in energy, until, in the end, we go into that energy. Moving with energy is natural, and so it breaks through the preconceptions that keep our spirits boxed in. Rather than following the habitual movements of your body, kigong means letting yourself truly be free so that your inner greatness can shine.

Shall we do free kigong together now?

Raise your hands. Kigong begins in the moment you raise your hands. Then, close your eyes, letting your hands move continuously however they want to. We feel our bodies in these movements. Our lost health is restored. Just do it, going with what you feel instead of with your head.

Now, slowly getting up, try doing the movements standing up. All these movements are ki. Now the free kigong has begun. It's not something you learn, but something you just do, going with the feeling. After feeling the energy, your lost spirit will return, too. Then your creative life will begin.

Ilchi Lee Brain Education Healing Point

Focused continually outside of ourselves—on our jobs, our families, the endless stream of information and entertainment—we often live without realizing our bodies are ill. We gradually accumulate aches and pains, toxins, clogged arteries, fatigue, and more, unaware of them until they are severe enough to keep us from being active.

Taking some quiet time every day to focus inside of ourselves gives our brains a chance to take stock of what’s going on inside our bodies, minds, and emotions. Actually, our brains can do more than take stock. With the help of our bodies themselves, and the life energy that runs through them, our brains can actually be an agent of healing.

When we move, tap, press, or vibrate our bodies mindfully, our brains discover the areas that need help. They realize where we have points of tension, pain, or blocked energy flow. At the same time, moving, vibrating, and pressing our bodies releases the tension, pain, and blockage, facilitating true healing.

Everything is connected with these points—emotional and spiritual issues as well as physical diseases. By finding points that need healing, we can address any issue. I developed a method I call Brain Education Healing Point (BHP) to help find and activate healing points.

BHP Method 1: Let Your Body Talk

Sit with your body relaxed and comfortable. At first, do this with your eyes open. Raise your hands to chest height with your palms facing away from your body.

Now, open your hands completely, stretching and really extending your ten fingers. Flex and stretch your palms and fingers outward so much that your wrists bend backward. Your lower back also extends and straightens naturally at the same time and your shoulders and neck start to relax.

Then, slowly relax your hands completely. Stretch and relax again two to three times.

Next, continuing to relax your fingers, close your eyes and concentrate on your hands. Your fingers slowly curl up, as if your hands are closing gently around eggs. Your wrists rotate naturally as your fingers continue to curl. The feeling grows if you keep concentrating on your body. You'll get different feelings as your wrists go around. Continue to watch your body as you do this.

Now your neck turns, and your shoulders rotate, too. Focus, telling yourself, "You're doing well. You're doing real well." Observe the changes in your body, continuing to focus. Energy starts circulating in your body. Your feeling of your body deepens.

The movements you need now for healing come out of you all on their own. Your body moves as it wants as you continue to focus within. You may find yourself yawning, your legs straightening, or your lower back curling up.

Soon, your body and your brain start to say, "Move here. Move like this." Do as they tell you. Just do it. If your body wants to vibrate, then vibrate; if your body wants to twist, then let it twist. The postures you need start to manifest and continue manifesting. Shoulders rotate for those with stiff shoulders. Hips relax for those with stiff hips. Cough if you feel like coughing. Tears, mucus, coughing, sound, sweat . . . all the motions and phenomena that happen are forms of healing. Do them actively, with confidence.

There is something that's crucial when you do BHP training. You have to focus completely the entire time, setting aside all of your preconceptions.

Change never happens if you do as you've always done. It doesn’t work if you get trapped by convention when some funny or embarrassing movement manifests. Do whatever you feel like doing, no matter what movements your body makes. Only then will your brain open up enough to see your underlying, even subconscious issues.

Ecstatic dance, brain wave vibration, shake it off

In that process, your hidden form appears; you discover a new self. Who knows how much your energy has been suppressed as you've worried so much about what others thought of you? Only if you do this actively will change really happen.

Move freely like this for 5 to 10 minutes. Then slowly stop moving. Inhale and exhale.

Straighten your spine so that the top of your head and the base of your tailbone align. Watch your body, seeing what condition it's in now. Feel whether your bones are properly aligned, whether your heart and lungs are working properly. How are your stomach, liver, and intestines? Are your hips okay? What about your knees? Are your energy and blood circulating well? Feel these things honestly.

As you feel your body, you may experience autonomous vibration in the places where you feel some imbalance or lack. This is energy moving and healing occurring. Relax and focus on your body, exhaling through your mouth, until any vibration you feel stops.

BHP Method 2: Press Points of Connection

In this relaxed and aware state, you can also find your healing points in a more systematic way. This second BHP method can be used anywhere, even without doing the method above, but always with concentration on your body.

It is a type of reflexology that involves your fingers, toes, or head in which you access all parts of your body, especially your major organs, via the energy channels, or meridians, that run throughout your body.

One of the easiest ways to do this method is to find the points on your hands, just below your fingernail cuticles.

Start by pressing the fingers of your non-dominant hand with the tip of the thumbnail of your dominant hand. Press hard enough with your thumbnail so that it leaves an impression.

Hand reflexology

Pressing in this way, find the spots that hurt the most. You can classify your sensation into five pain levels: SS, S, A, B, and C. If pressing only leaves an impression, you can classify a spot as level B or C, which are normal and not in need of healing. Beginning next with level A, though, you'll feel some pain. Pain indicates a healing point. Level SS or S points are very painful, with SS being the most painful.

It’s important to find the S and SS level points. When you press those points with your fingernail, it hurts like you're being stabbed, your body really heats up, and, in severe cases, you even tear up.

After you find a painful point, gently massage it with your thumb for about one minute. Once you’ve massaged all of the healing points on one hand, test the points on your other hand as well.

If you’ve found the points on your hands, you can also try pressing different parts of your head with your fingernail to find healing points there. Close your eyes to focus within, and massage the painful places for about one minute, really observing what changes happen in your body.

When the healing points stop hurting, the healing process is complete. However, you may need to massage the points more than one time in order for the pain to go away completely. When you've done BHP several times, you'll see a 50 percent improvement in your health. Keep at it, and your health will improve more. If your health isn’t 100 percent, keep finding and massaging healing points until they are completely free of pain.

It’s Not Only Relaxing

Many people are finding their healing points to recover health for themselves: people suffering with a slipped disc for five or 10 years, people with Parkinson's disease, people suffering from headaches or insomnia. But physical recovery aren’t the only effects of BHP.

If you regularly use the BHP method, there may be times when you see the face of someone you hadn't been thinking about before, or stories from long ago may come to mind. As this happens, bad memories from the past are purified. Living a busy life, you sometimes have misunderstandings and troubles because of faulty information or memories. They are released through BHP as the tangled knot of thoughts in your head rises to the surface.

As your physical and emotional hurts are healed, your spiritual problems are also resolved and your consciousness grows brighter and more positive. Students and scholars may find unresolved areas of their research suddenly clearing up and artists and creatives may come up with new ideas. Your intuition and other spiritual capabilities can develop and strengthen. Even your self-worth, willpower, and confidence can grow.

Using BHP daily prevents illnesses of any kind from sneaking up on you and gives you a leg up on any kind of personal development as you deepen and strengthen your inner awareness. Though at first you may use BHP on yourself, later you can also help others find their healing points and make it a common-sense part of daily self-care.

Ilchi Lee doing balancing meditation in New Zealand

One day, I found a stone in my garden and decided to put it on top of a major energy point at the crown of my head. I kept it there as I walked around, ate, spoke with people, sat at the computer, and even when I did squats. In my effort to balance the stone, the angles and direction of my body were correctly aligned and I could have no distracting thoughts.

Because of this, I could concentrate more easily, especially on the vision of the future I am always working toward. With this concentration comes more willpower, confidence, and even infinite creativity.

The alignment and concentration also improved my energy circulation. If you’ve never experienced the energy circulation in your body, it’s hard to imagine what this feels like, but I felt the line of energy through the center of my body intensify. Stronger energy spread throughout my body, even to my fingertips and toe tips.

As a result, saliva gathered in my mouth, indicating my parasympathetic nervous system was active. My body warmed up, my eyes sparkled, and my heart overflowed with infinite confidence and love.

In other words, I was meditating, even while doing other things. Just by balancing a stone on top of my head, I could achieve a meditative state, without sitting still for hours.

By quieting and focusing my mind, this meditation has been like a turbo boost to my day. I can achieve so much more and do it more happily and easily.

Of course, the act of balancing a stone is actually not easy. Sometimes having to balance the stone can seem like an annoyance or a roadblock. But, as it is something I freely choose and can stop at anytime, I treat this exercise as an important practice for managing my energy, my time, and my life—one that I suggest to everyone around me.

I call this meditation, Chunmoon Meditation, after the point on top of the head on which the rock sits. This point has several names, but the word chunmoon, meaning “heavenly gate,” reflects its role as the gate through which our soul enters our bodies when they are formed and leaves our bodies when they die. It is also the gate through which the purest life energy, what you could call heavenly energy, comes to us. I write more about the chunmoon and the process of the soul leaving the body in my book, I’ve Decided to Live 120 Years: The Ancient Secret to Longevity, Vitality, and Life Transformation.

New Zealand Meditation Tour from North American practicing Chunmoon Meditation

Why don’t you try this simple meditation for yourself? With Chunmoon Meditation, you can take back the reigns of your brain, which may be running wild with extraneous thoughts and emotions, and bring your life into balance. I would love to hear about your experience with it in the comments.

An important part of the event was the Pineal Gland Meditation and Chunmoon (Heavenly Gate) Meditation participants experienced. These meditation methods were designed to balance the health of the body and awaken the creative potential of the brain. This results from creating a state of Shinmyung, which literally means “divinity” (shin) “brightness” (myung). These two meditations enhance and increase the bright, divine energy Ilchi Lee says is present in the brain. Many participants shared they felt brighter and more hopeful after the event, and were inspired to share Ilchi Lee’s Brain Education methods, such as Pineal Gland Meditation and Chunmoon Meditation.

After the event, Ilchi Lee commented that altogether the Shin Myung Festival “was on fire and filled with the most passion in all the history of the [events in the U.S.], a very precious time spent together with over 2,000 people. I threw myself into it completely . . . and great resonance and connection took place. It was a time of beauty and greatness.”
