Close Encounters of the Soul Kind

A Meeting

You must not absentmindedly pass by
even a single wildflower
that you meet in the mountain.
Think of how that flower bloomed there
at exactly the right time
just to meet you.

Just as you existed in that time and space
the flower did, too.
You shared the same time and space.

When you leave that place,
sometime sooner or later the flower will wither.
Just as there is life and death for humans,
there is also life and death for flowers.
With the sun and wind, that flower also
blooms and withers and bears fruit.
The flower and we are there together
in the great order of life called yulyeo.

Meet people and objects every day
with the mindset with which you see that flower.
It isn’t just the meeting of lovers
but all meetings that are not coincidence.
Each one has its unique meaning and lesson.

True meeting isn’t about being face to face,
it’s a chemical reaction of the mind that arises
from heart to heart and energy to energy interactions.

A fated relationship is a meeting
in which people recognize the sincere wishes cherished in each other’s hearts,
and encourage and help each other
so that they can actualize those wishes.
