Explore how to align with your true self, awaken your consciousness, and master your energy through the Fifth, Seventh, and First Chakras.
Energy is life. It’s a language. Just as we learn a language for survival, feeling, mastering, and using energy are essential skills for protecting, managing, and developing oneself. Through realizing the invisible world of energy, we gain a new sense of our true selves and become enlightened to this self beyond the ego we’re familiar with.
Chakras are the energy centers that awaken and operate energy, so becoming familiar with our chakras is important for becoming fluent in energy. The seven internal chakras of our bodies help circulate energy through our energy system, which also includes our energy channels (meridians) and energy points.
While energy needs to circulate inside us, we also take in energy from the universe. This cosmic energy, which I call chunjikiun in Korean, has no form and no limits. Chunjikiun enlivens the true self energy in our hearts, which manifests as a good character in ourselves that acts for the greater good in the world. It also brings the divine energy in our brains to life, igniting our intuition and creativity. Cosmic energy nurtures us, and we can rely on it as we live each day.
The Three Most Important Chakras
Among the seven energy centers that manage our energy and life force, three are most important: the Fifth, Seventh, and First Chakras.

The first of these, the Fifth Chakra, is also called the Soul Gate, and it is the gate from our soul in our Fourth Chakra (Heart Chakra) to the divinity in our Sixth Chakra (Third Eye Chakra). While all chakras have their own roles and importance, the most important is the Fifth Chakra. Chakras 5, 7, and 1 are actually one, but there is a reason why the Fifth Chakra comes first. That is because through it, through words, through speech, we can completely change our body’s information entity and energy body.
We hold various information and knowledge. Thus, we can see and judge as much as the quantity and quality of that information. But beyond that, we also have consciousness. When we’re aware of our consciousness, we are no longer mere physical beings or beings of knowledge or information. We become spiritual beings and can fully own the knowledge and information we have, using it 100 percent. Our words, both the quiet ones in our minds and the ones we say aloud, help us do this–that’s how important the Fifth Chakra is. It’s how important the power of words is, and how powerful a vibration words create.
So, if we want to manage the Fifth Chakra well, awaken to its preciousness, and practice it ourselves, the key method is speaking well to ourselves. While the words we speak to others are important, we need to pay attention to the messages we give to ourselves. Especially when we’re alone, what consciousness and words do we mainly use? What kind of words and messages do we say to ourselves? Depending on what words we say to ourselves, the energy of the words changes the vibration of all seven chakras.

If we want to be kind to others and be someone who gives positive messages to others, we first need to do it to ourselves–to respect ourselves, love ourselves, and acknowledge ourselves. When we constantly find and tell ourselves empowering messages, the power that comes from this Fifth Chakra, the power of the Soul Gate, emerges.
When people say, “Your words have no soul,” “There is no soul in your words,” that’s not just a saying. They are not just empty words, because the Fifth Chakra is truly the Soul Gate. If we want to deliver a message that conveys our soul, if we want to convey truly influential power with sincerity, the importance of the messages we give ourselves cannot be emphasized enough.
This important idea was conveyed in 2025’s sensationally popular animated film, K-Pop Demon Hunters. How the main characters used their voices affected them and all the people around them. The love and encouragement they gave themselves imbued their voices with more power. Their voices were the key to creating the Honmoon, or the Soul Gate, that protected the earth from soul-eating demons.
The Seventh Chakra Antenna
The Seventh Chakra at the very top of our heads acts as a transmitter and receiver for cosmic energy. But the information we have in our minds and the messages from the Soul Gate, the Fifth Chakra, determine whether cosmic energy can come in or out of our bodies. When energy comes in, if information produced at the Soul Gate has a vibration that disturbs the vibration of our seven chakras, the universe’s energy cannot enter, no matter how good it is.
When we open our own Soul Gates, the Seventh Chakra transmitter-receiver opens and closes smoothly with the power of our soulful words. The most important thing is to reject negative energy and information that tries to enter us and to accept helpful, positive energy and information.

Circulate Energy with Energy Walking
When cosmic energy comes into the Seventh Chakra, it travels down to the First Chakra, warming up the chakras with circulating energy. We can facilitate this circulation and harness cosmic energy through Energy Walking.
This walking style allows us to take in and move energy. First, we feel four energy centers on the surface of our body. Two lie on the palms of our hands (jangshim) and two on the soles of our feet (yongchun). We keep our focus on these centers as we walk. Feeling our yongchun means that energy gathers in our knees and pelvis. It helps to walk with our feet parallel to each other, like the number 11.

Just walking while thinking other thoughts, however, is not Energy Walking. Energy Walking is feeling the yongchun and jangshim, connecting energy, and trying to walk. But it comes in stages:
- Energy Walking Looking Around: Look around while walking in place instead of getting lost in thought. Notice the people around you.
- Energy Walking with Eyes Closed: Then walk in place with eyes closed and mind focused inside you. Feel the yongchun and jangshim points more deeply and your body balance. Then feel how well you can sense your chakras. Once we can do that, our consciousness will have fully come into our bodies.
- Energy Dancing: At that time, energy that was outside gathers inside, and we can transition from Energy Walking to Energy Dancing. Move following the energy inside. Let your entire body flow with energy.
At the third stage, we can feel our chakras completely, see their colors, and sense how charged with energy they are. Our sense of energy grows, and we can see it clearly. When the energy of “5, 7, 1” awakens, all the chakras can be felt, and we can become close to and familiar with all of them. That means we can charge up our bodies’ energy ourselves, defend against unhelpful energy, and accept helpful energy. We can control our own energy and become masters of it.
Energy Walking and Energy Dancing become more powerful when we add chanting. Try chanting, “5, 7, 1, Sahm Sa Seong Hwan, 5, 7, 1,” while walking in place with eyes closed. Then, when consciousness is completely in the body, try Energy Dancing, too.
This time is a very important time for learning principles, and for practicing and experiencing them. Energy Walking and Energy Dancing are very practical yet simple but important methods of practice we can use in our daily lives. With these three basic steps, we can make friends with our chakras, become familiar with our energy, and use it to communicate and manage our lives.
