Yesterday, Ilchi Lee received the 2015 Grand Prize Management Award for True Education Management given by leading South Korean cable network, TV Chosun. This prestigious award recognized him for his innovative development of the Global Cyber University.
Founded in 2010, the Global Cyber University is a four-year online undergraduate university. It started with 490 students, and in the past four years has increased its freshman class by 178%. Since its founding by Ilchi Lee, the university expanded its full-time faculty and fortified its remote educational facilities. Last year, President Lee provided financial scholarships to the entire student body. To improve student experience, a subject study hall was opened in the Gangnam area of Seoul for students in the metropolitan area. This space was also conveniently used to film instructors’ classes.
Lee attended the televised ceremony held at the Seoul Namsan Millennium Hilton Hotel. Ten awards were given, including ones for global management, leadership management, sustainability management, and innovation management. The grand prize winners were chosen based on their leadership capabilities, management infrastructure, management results, and projected achievement. The four other winners in education included President Youngshik Kim of Baekseok Cultural University, President Kiwoo Lee of JEI University, President Hoonkyu Lee of Cha Medical College, and President Seunghyun Moon of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST).
