Poem: This World Is Beautiful

Not long ago, one of my students passed away. We had worked on the same dream for many years; he was someone I could rely on who moved through the world with dignity and diligence. I was able to spend time with him before he passed and help him through that transition. Being with him reminded me of this poem I wrote, which I think suits him well. I’d like to share an excerpt from it with you to encourage all of us as the world goes through its own big transitions.

This world is beautiful!

This world is beautiful,
the brilliant sun shines upon us.

At night,
the moon and stars love and bless everyone equally.

Now I know
all of this is God’s blessing.

Whether joy or sorrow, come to me!
I will be satisfied.
I know all of this is a blessing.

Nothing in this world can take away this heart full of love, nor can it separate us from chunjikiun (cosmic energy).

Our vision and hope!
This is the sun, the stars, and the moon.
We can do it, we can achieve it!

When eyelids and lips are closed,
it is despair and darkness for us!
But we can open our eyes and speak.

We understand that
when we feel this is our limit, it is actually a possibility and an opportunity for growth,
that beyond my limits, my beloved is there.

I know that my beloved is waiting at the door,
that Eesang Ingan (ideal human) Han Segye (world of oneness) is eternally with my beloved.

I know that originally I am one with the stars, the moon, the sun, and everything in this world!

Where our beloved is, I am there.
Where our beloved is, we are there!

How does this poem make you feel? How would you interpret it? I would love to know.
