In the wake of the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in Japan, and the ensuing danger of radiation, I continue to pray for Japan and its people. I know they are finding and creating hope in a difficult time, and I am inspired to keep delivering hope as well, for our shared future on this earth. |
The First Teaching
When a person is born into the world, this is the first thing you need to let them know: “You have come to the earth. You are an Earth Human. These are your roots, and the place of your origin is the earth.” That’s what you need to tell them. Your soul falls to this blue-green star one day, alone, as if it were bungee jumping. Without even knowing where it came from or where it’s going, your soul embarks on a long journey. Life is a journey. We have boarded the earth to go on this journey. It is at once a spiritual voyage for each individual, as well as a process of growth for humanity as a whole. The two are not separate. The greatest enlightenment is being aware that the earth is our home and we’re all dependent on it. As we go about our daily lives, people often forget how much we owe to the earth and how much it influences us. We’re all here on the earth, together. My family, me, my religion, and my people all exist because the earth is here. This truth is so clear, but few places actively teach the relationship between the earth and human beings. That’s why I created Brain Education, to encourage people to learn the Hongik spirit of love for humans and love for the earth. In the future, I hope that we can establish Earth Citizen Schools all over the world to teach the Hongik spirit and Brain Education for the sake of true peace for the earth and humanity. |

Earth Citizen Schools!!! Yes, Thank you, Seuseungnim. I can see that. Great possibilities, hope.
Yes! My 1st grandchild was born not so long ago — September 17, so she is now almost 7 months old. My son and his wife had a home birth, with a pool of water set up in their bedroom, in which he held his partner while she was in labor, and when the baby was born, the midwife helped her to quickly come through the water to be held by them. The first thing I said to her was, Welcome to the World! and I held her tiny hand, and she held mine! She always responds to my voice, and I think that a very deep connection between us was established then! I feel it was so precious that my son called me to be present at the birth with them! Her name is Talise Katara Tessa — Talise means Beautiful Waters in the Native American Muskogee/Creek language, her middle name Katara, comes from the show about the Avatar superheroine (a children’s video show) who is always working to help others; her other middle name Tessa, is in memory of a very dear friend of my son’s who died quite tragically, who was in the Peace Corps, and was doing wonderful things to help people too – even though she was young, she had already done great and compassionate work..
I hope each child can live a life fulfilling the wonderful and great potential that they bring in with them.to this earth, and that they are raised freely, connected to their true self, so that they are able to grow and contribute their love to the world. It is so difficult to know that so many children are hurting around the world from the conditions that they have to live with. I hope that the adults can wake up enough to not keep doing this to the children!! Earth Citizen Schools is certainly a wonderful idea! I hope that we can carry it out! Chun Hwa Se Oh!
