Hope Visits Only with Your Invitation

Some guests come only when you invite them. Hope is one of them. You can’t expect hope to pay you a visit unless you’ve extended your invitation. Otherwise, it will just brush by your life; and the void it leaves behind will be filled by apathy, numbness, and despair.

There will probably be certain instances in your life when you’re lucky enough that hope finds you even when you haven’t chosen it. But hope like that doesn’t stay. Once it realizes it had come uninvited, it’ll be gone in a jiffy.

We have the right to choose hope in any situation, no matter how difficult. Everyone has unlimited access to this right. Knowing that you can choose hope no matter what hardship you may be facing, knowing that the sun is still shining even on a day when thick clouds are covering its light, is a huge blessing. Hope is a fishing line for catching happiness in the river of life.

It took a long time for me to really understand the fact that I have the power of choice (and the following responsibility). I have the power to choose and I (want to) choose hope, love, and light. I really thank all the teachers (especially masters) that I have met for helping me to open my eyes to this spiritual journey.

  • Thank you Ilchi Lee! I have a brother that is living without hope right now. I am going to share this with him!! He doesn’t even understand the concept of hope, and this will help him understand! Your messages are always so meaningful and timely for me. I am so very grateful to you!!

  • This posting means a lot to me Ilchi Lee. I recalled telling a colleague of mine I was eyeing an office space which meant a promotion. He was visibly agitated. I said I have hopes. He brushed it off and said positive thinking and hope do not belong in the office. I smiled and said I amstill hoping. Today I am sitting in that office and at that desk. That’s how powerful hope is! Thanks for your inspiring notes.
